This is David Brooks' Party of the Middle?

Ever since it became clear that the American public has soured on the right wing nutjobs currently running our country, conservative pundits like David Brooks have been trying to change the political dialog from one of “conservative versus liberal” into one of “centrist versus liberal”.

This article describes the ruse rise of a new, supposedly non-partisan, party characterized by John McCain and Joe Lieberman.

Yes - this John McCain?

And this Joe Lieberman?

When McCain and Lieberman are willing to give Russ Feingold or John Conyers a big hug in public, I might consider them bipartisan.

Until then, they are (as Digby has said) just two more eunuchs in the Bush political harem!

David Brooks is the perpetual "head of the class" boy who cannot bear the ignominy of being found to be wrong -- so he simply rephrases the exam question he answered wrong and puts the best face possible on his bluff.

I always enjoy the Mark Shields/David Brooks discussions on Lehrer's NewsHour -- more, I think, for the expressions caught on Shields' face sometimes than for anything else. Despite surface courtesy in disagreements, I know in the back of his mind there is surging forth an outraged bellow of "What the f**k?"
