Three Card VP Monty?

Last Saturday as the Wesley Clark VP talk was beginning to fill the tubes - Steve Clemons wrote this post with the headline - "Obama to General Wesley Clark: Your Services Not Needed" which just as quickly threw water on the Internet fire. It seemed odd to me at the time. It's just not Obama's m.o. to publicly disrespect anyone - let alone someone of Clark's stature.

Now Clemons has just posted a new piece calling on Obama to reconsider and invite Clark to participate at the convention and in his potential administration.

And once again his post seems fishy to me. Might Clemons be being used here - a la Drudge? Might he be a participant in the Obama Campaign's game of three card VP monty? First he threw us off the scent quoting inside Clark sources. Now he is calling on Obama to do the right thing by reconsidering Clark's role. This new post may reignite the smoldering Clark VP fire.

I don't know what's going on here but its interesting. I guess we'll all know soon!

  1. Clark's the nominee. At least, I'm betting quite a bit on the possibility :)

  2. Interesting thought!

I agree that it would make no sense for Obama to diss Clark by essentially telling him "You're not needed at the convention!"

Clemons is usually a pretty careful guy, not prone to wild speculation or emotional reactions, so his posts on Clark are particularly interesting.
