What You Get For The Money

Because of the infectious enthusiasm of a person who I will call Ms. seenos (to keep the relationship information simple), I’ve become a frequent watcher of the cable channel HGTV The Home & Garden Television Network. One of the shows we have been known to watch is called What You Get For the Money, a comparison of homes in different geographical locations in the same price range. It is a great opportunity to quickly compare housing alternatives without having to consider differences in price.

I had a similar opportunity today as I was scanning the news. I found this article from The Texas Observer describing how $25,000 would get you a lunch date in the White House with President Bush arranged by Jack Abramoff. However, I also found out that for the same $25,000, I could purchase William Shatner’s kidney stone! That’s a tough call – an afternoon of conversation with George Bush, or the ability to stare at a jar containing Captain Kirk’s kidney stone in the privacy of my own home? Decisions, decisions . . . .

  1. How about if I throw in a "Trible" with that kidney stone? Would that make your decision any easier?

From the investor's standpoint, you're probably going to get a much better return by choosing the meeting with King George. I can't imagine that appreciation on Captain Kirk's stone is going to match the value of massive tax cuts for you and your heirs (assuming that you are filthy rich, which should be a safe assumption if you have $25Gs lying around to pay for this little visit in the first place), or no-bid contracts for rebuilding Iraq and/or New Orleans, or holding-off on increasing mileage requirements for new cars and trucks (if you happen to be an automotive or oil company exec)... Nope, the meet and greet at the White House is going to pay-off better than Kirk's stone, Spock's appendix, Scotty's liver and Sulu's [deleted due to possible FCC rule violations] put together!
